With tiny fingernails she picked and plucked and scratched at the small growth on the back of her neck. At first it itched for a few minutes, then hours and then days. Veera’s fertile little imagination seemed to play small tricks on her, making her think the little growth had grown and grown each time she curled her stubby fingers behind her head for one more satisfying scratch.
As she slept, her older brother whispered nightmares into her ear…
